The underarm stains you are experiencing could either be perspiration stains or anti-perspirant stains. If the fabric feels normal and the stains are yellow, they are perspiration stains. Perspiration is a normal physiological function, which allows the body to rid itself of waste and to maintain the correct temperature. The amount and composition of the perspiration released through one's pores are determined by a number of factors, including heat, stress, physical health, and diet. These factors change on a daily basis and have an impact on whether or not staining may occur.

If the fabric feels stiff or the stain is oily, this is an anti-perspirant stain often caused by using more product than you need to prevent wetness and odor. It can also be caused when using aerosols and not allowing the application to dry before dressing. If product is over-applied it tends to come off on clothing and may cause stains.

For fresh stains, apply ammonia directly to the area affected. Older stains may be more difficult to treat because they have set and may have been heated in the dryer. For these, apply white vinegar to the area. In both cases, test an undetectable area for color-fastness first. Allow either the ammonia or the vinegar to soak for 15 seconds and rinse well with cool water. Then, wash the garment in the hottest water safe for the fabric, using laundry detergent. Repeat the entire process if necessary.

The recommended application technique and amount of product varies by type.

Invisible Solids: Container should be held upright, applying only two to three strokes to each underarm.

Clear Gels: Hold the container upright and turn the wheel so that only a few peaks of the product are coming out of the applicator grid. Glide the product onto your underarm using two or three strokes.

Aerosols: Shake the container well before use. Hold the container in an upright position six inches away from underarm and spray for about two to three seconds. Allow underarms to dry before putting on clothes.

If the nozzle becomes temporarily clogged, try rinsing it with warm water. Other useful tips include keeping spray containers upright while spraying and storing them at room temperature (high or low temperatures could cause problems).

When you first open a new container and remove the tamper-proof seal, you may find it necessary to turn the twist dial a few times to force out any air bubbles that may have accumulated at the top of the container during shipment. If you inadvertently twist up too much product, simply use a tissue to wipe the excess from the top of the container. If the product still does not dispense properly, it may be because the mechanism is not working properly. Please call the Dial Consumer Information Center at 1-800-258-3425 for further assistance.

Gel products may temporarily become cloudy or hazy if exposed to extreme heat or cold. This temporary change in appearance will not affect the performance of the product, and the gel will regain its clarity when returned to normal room temperature.

In the past, there have been rumors in the press and on the internet alleging a link between aluminum salts in anti-perspirant/deodorants and breast cancer. The anti-perspirant is alleged to block the body's ability to release toxins through the sweat ducts, and causing cancerous toxins to be absorbed by the skin. These reports are inaccurate in nature, and consumers should not be concerned about using these products. Consumer safety and product quality are of utmost importance to The Dial Corporation. Our review of the best scientific and medical information currently available indicates that the use of anti-perspirants does not cause breast cancer. There are completed studies focusing on this issue, and according to the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the Mayo Clinic, and the FDA, there is no conclusive evidence that links the use of underarm anti-perspirant or deodorants to the development of breast cancer.
